Austin, TX - Part 2

While not attending the Ecological Society of America conference, Carlos and I (along with some friends from La Selva) wandered the downtown Austin area. It is a pretty cool city and full of interesting things to see and do!

We saw lots of cows on parade throughout the city streets. This one was Carlos' favorite and was entitled "Remember the Alamoo."

There were a lot of interesting bars on 6th street, fairly close to our hotel and the conference center. I don't think I ever visited the Bat Bar, but the Jackalope was pretty cool and dive-y!

Nearby was the Museum of the Weird -- kind of like Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe in Seattle (but a little smaller and low-budget...if Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe can be considered high-budget!). We toured the back rooms and saw feegee mermaids and my favorite, the very rare fur-bearing trout!

Of course, while in Austin we had to try some authentic Texas BBQ! We went to a little place down the street from our hotel called Stubbs and it was pretty good.

Stay tuned for a couple more episodes of awesome Austin antics!
