DC -- Natural History Museum -- Part IV

Still at the Natural History Museum, Carlos and I met with one of his mentors there for a little tour of the entomology collection. We looked at lots of drawers of interesting specimens and some really rare beetles collected by famous biologists. I really liked seeing the diversity of the insect morphologies -- size, shape, and color were really diverse.

We even looked at a collection of large beetles that had been confiscated at the US border -- while alive, people had glued rhinestones and a chain to the animals which they could pin to their clothes and wear as walking, bedazzled jewelry. People are strange.

Anyway, my tour of the insect collection (with an emphasis on beetles) was great and it was really fun to see all of the materials and tools visiting scientists can use to conduct their research here.
