It required a slight bit of planning to visit the Washington Monument. You cannot just show up to take the little tour to the top, you must either reserve tickets online for a fee or stand in line before the monument opens and reserve same-day (free) tickets. Carlos and I chose to do the latter and reserved our tickets for 2 pm in the afternoon. We were lucky to have a pretty, clear day to see the view -- though there was a lot of wind and that monument really sways!

We took the elevator up and looked at the view from each of the four directions. First we looked in the direction of the Lincoln Memorial and the Reflecting Pool.

Next, moving clockwise, was the White House...

Followed by the mall and Capitol...

Then the Potomac River and Jefferson Memorial.

There were quite a few people up at the top, but we were able to get some nice views of DC!
