Manzana de agua

I know this is an extra post for today, but it is about a delicious, interesting fruit! Today Carlos and I went to town to buy groceries and EVERYONE was lined along the street (there is only one street in town) selling produce. It was really nice getting free samples of avocados, but the one fruit we ended up buying a huge (cheap) bag of were these fruits called manzana de agua ("water apple").

They are in the family Myrtaceae and the genus Eugenia. The taste is really unique -- kind of sour and floral with a little taste of water and pear and apple. The skin is a little waxy and there is one big seed inside. The bag we bought has about 15 fruits and only cost $1.
